On the morning of January 23, 1993, Nancy Lim died in Summit Hospital in Oakland, California. She died from misdiagnosed complications from two surgeries to repair a botched Caesarian section.

Nancy, my wife, died when our son Max was nine months old. She was a Yale-trained nurse practitioner who worked for Summit Hospital. She died even though she gave the emergency room an accurate diagnosis of her life-threatening condition.

The doctor and hospital staff involved in her death falsified the medical records and lied under oath about what happened. It took us 18 months to find a witness who refused to lie about what she had seen that morning. After two years we settled with the hospital. It took another three years to settle with the last doctor and complete my complaint to the state medical board.
